This floor-to-ceiling bookcase is made of
cherry hardwood and cherry plywood.
Here's a shot before being loaded with books.  Each cube is a discrete unit of top, bottom, sides and back.  The cubes are stacked and fastened together.  The load of each cube is supported by all the units beneath it.

The carved wooden leaves, c.1930s vintage, in the maple frame, were found in a friend's mother's attic.
They were in a hinged cardboard box with flocking inside, brass hinges and the logo of a furniture company.
